Land Protection · Atlantic Forest · Bahia

Some forests cannot be restored later. They must be protected today.

Standing Forest is ALUME's long-term land protection initiative. Our first objective is to acquire a strategic 13-hectare property that would expand Fazenda ALUME from 42 to 55 hectares, strengthening ecological connectivity and creating a larger landscape for restoration, research, and community stewardship.

Why This Land

Protecting one place can strengthen an entire landscape.

The proposed acquisition borders Fazenda ALUME and lies within one of Brazil's most important Atlantic Forest regions, surrounded by protected areas and remaining forest fragments.

Securing this land would allow restoration to extend across a larger continuous territory while reducing the risk of future land-use changes that could further fragment the landscape.

Rather than protecting an isolated forest, Standing Forest invests in ecological connectivity—creating conditions for biodiversity, water systems, and natural regeneration to function across a broader landscape.

Potential beneficiaries of healthier connected forests include:

  • Sapajus xanthosternos — Yellow-breasted Capuchin (Critically Endangered)
  • Leontopithecus chrysomelas — Golden-headed Lion Tamarin (Endangered)
  • Dalbergia nigra — Brazilian Rosewood (Vulnerable)
  • Paubrasilia echinata — Brazilwood (Endangered)

What Your Support Makes Possible

One investment. Generations of impact.

The current fundraising target supports three complementary objectives.

This investment creates a permanent regenerative asset that will support restoration, research, environmental education, and community initiatives for decades to come.

What Your Support Makes Possible
StagePurpose
Land AcquisitionPurchase of the property and legal transfer into institutional stewardship.
Long-Term StewardshipLegal protection, governance, management planning, and financial sustainability.
Initial ImplementationBoundary protection, ecological restoration, monitoring, educational infrastructure, and field equipment.

Why ALUME

Land protection is only the beginning.

Many organisations acquire land.

ALUME's mission is to transform protected land into a living laboratory for regeneration—combining ecological restoration, scientific monitoring, agroforestry, environmental education, cultural programmes, and open-source innovation.

We also believe preservation becomes stronger when people are part of it. By integrating local communities into these preservation zones through stewardship, education, work, and shared responsibility, we create safer landscapes, stronger social ties, and a more resilient model of conservation.

Standing Forest represents a new way to preserve, regenerate, and create green corridors without excluding people. Unlike strictly exclusionary models, it connects ecological protection with human presence, making the landscape more secure and more durable over time.

Standing Forest is not an isolated conservation project. It strengthens every other initiative developed by the Institute, from Tree Planting and Science & Monitoring to Artist Green Residency, Community Workshops, and future regenerative technologies.

Protecting land creates the foundation. Everything else grows from it.

Governance

Built for long-term stewardship.

Standing Forest is designed to protect land for future generations.

As the programme grows, ALUME will continue strengthening governance through strategic partnerships, transparent financial reporting, legal safeguards, and independent oversight appropriate for institutional funders and international conservation partners.
